Okawahara, Furoshiki Loose Bag, White Pine

Okawahara, Furoshiki Loose Bag, White Pine

This modern-style Tsuno bag dyed with the nori-zome technique is simple and perfect for everyday use, whether it's carrying your essentials, or grocery shopping.

Tsuno Bukuro means "horn bag". The name comes from the shape, which looks like two horns. Traditionally, these bags are simply constructed from a single rectangle length of fabric, creating them without extra cuts or folds. Tsunobukuro were usually used by farmers to transport grain.

Nori-zome is a dyeing technique that utilizes rice paste to create intricate designs. By applying the paste to the cloth, artisans block out specific patterns. When the fabric is dyed, the protected areas remain the original color of the cloth, resulting in sharp, detailed imagery.

With a legacy spanning over 200 years, Okawahara preserves the ancient nori-zome technique to honor the traditional dyeing culture of Kagawa Prefecture. By blending this meticulous craftsmanship with modern innovation, they continue to produce vibrant, high quality pieces that bring Japanese heritage into the contemporary world.
